Giant Squids!

I've been trying desperately to drum up some business for these guys. They take a lot of supplies, time and effort to make, so they're kind of expensive, but totally worth it!! They're comfortable pillows that will keep you warm all through the winter, and will listen to your problems and not judge.

Practice Stuff

So I'm pretty aware that no one reads this blog, but I like to think that one day when my name is a little bit more well-known, my fans can look back at this blog and say "Oh, so that's the kind of stuff she would post. You can see she's gotten a lot better. Also, this cheese tastes great."

Yeah, I imagine that's what they'll say as they eat their little wheel of Laughing Cow.

Anyway, I'm just updating with some color/lineart practice pieces.

It's a lady! An evil lady, probably. Also naked, but we won't get into that.

Here's one of my characters from way back, and this is me changing his character design a little and coloring him in Copics with a screentone overlay in Photoshop because maybe I think it looks cool all right?

Last but not least, it's the butler again, because man do I love this guy. I'm trying to figure out Photoshop and it's coming slowly...

I would like to have money soon, please.

Peanut!

It's a...peanut!!

Also, a girl and an elephant maybe or something.

Halloween 2010

Not much going on here, but I thought I'd post a picture from Halloween of me and my cousin, wearing our homemade costumes. I'm the Witch from Left 4 Dead and he's the awesome mini-Subject Delta from Bioshock 2!

His costume is amazing; not bad for a 12-year-old, huh? We should start our own costume business!

Art Nouveau 2

Just updating with another Art Nouveau/manga hybrid. Again, I did this one a few weeks ago, so it's being posted fairly late.

So far we've got The Butler and The Healer, this week's will be The Priestess. She's already inked, I've just got to get her colored.

Things are a little rough right now, and I'm under some fiscal stress, so I'd like to emphasize the fact that I am always up for commissions.

As a side note, How to Train Your Dragon was just as good as I remembered.

Art Nouveau 1

I'm trying my hand at Art Nouveau! Or rather a manga/Art Nouveau hybrid? I drew and colored this one about two weeks ago, but have only recently thought to post it here. I'm aiming for one character a week, but it really depends on my work schedule and how okay/horrible things are going for me.

Hahah...sigh.

Oh Hai Guyz

I...uh...I've been really busy lately with work and stuff. Yeah...so here's a picture!

I did this about a month ago, as the cover for the mini-comic I made for my friend's birthday. They're foxes and also best friends maybe?

Anyway, I'm desperately trying to do more art-related things. I'm trying, darn it!

It's Been a While!

It's been way too long since an update, so I decided to post a drawing! In other news, I'm working on a secret project for my friend's birthday, and I'm still looking for a job. Anyway, once the project is finished, I suspect I'll display a bit of it on this site, and perhaps make copies to sell at conventions.

Anywho, about this illustration...it's the first of a series I'm planning on completing. They're more or less character designs for the fictional band Thickening Agent. What you see below are the bass player and the guitarist, respectively. I still have to post the lead singer and the drummer, along with their various friends and family.

I'm also waiting for the two who won my last contest to get back to me about what they would like me to sketch. I will be posting another contest piece up soon, so get ready! As you know, the prize is a colored sketch of anything you want!

See you soon, I hope!

Contest!

Hi everyone! I started a contest at my other blog a while back, and really wanted to continue with a different possibility to win every week, but I didn't have the time. So I'm trying again now that I'm a free bird!! This week's contest is pretty much like last time's.

Below I have an illustration that I drew with the initial inspiration being a Greek goddess. You tell me which Greek goddess it was that inspired this and you'll get a free sketch from me of anything you want!

Except...y'know, porn.

Careful, cuz it might be a little tricky. Tell me who you think it is below in the comments, or send me an Email at madisonhenline@gmail.com. Good luck!

Bleedingheart Dove and Cover Art

I believe this will be the last of the updates concerning the "Strange Tales of the American South" book I completed for Self-Publishing. It's sad, in a way. I'm at my mom's house in Florida at the moment, and yesterday when I cleaned my closet I found all this art I did as projects for foundation classes. Seems like so long ago! Anyway, this first image is the title card for the Bleedingheart Dove. The story, as always, can be found here: http://themoonlitroad.com/the-bleeding-heart-dove/

This second image was completed in watercolors and I like it pretty much except for the plant in the background and the girl's feet. Seriously! What was I doing there? The colors I used for her skin also turned out very splotchy for some reason. I need practice!

Below is the cover image I used. It's very simple and very...digital.

And finally, the completed book! I also created a back page showing previews of the stories and giving credit to Craig Dominey and his website, but there wasn't really an illustration on the back save for a derpy bird, so I suppose this is it!

This illustration is one of my personal favorites, and the story it's based upon is one of my favorites as well. The story is here: http://themoonlitroad.com/the-white-dress/

And I'd highly recommend reading it. It's short, sweet, and awesome.

I also had a version of this drawing where I included the lines and details of her dress.

But in the end, I just thought it looked better with the white. I also included a picture I took of the finished book, open to the page with this illustration on it.

In other news, I wanted to give you guys my E-mail in case anyone wanted to contact me. You can E-mail me at either madisonhenline@gmail.com or FeatheredIce@aol.com. I'll have some more posts up later, when I'm not job searching. Thanks for reading! :D

What?

Here's just a little WTF to get you through your day.

I whipped up these derpy sketches because I had to do a presentation about Minamata Disease. Look that sucker up, it's interesting. And depressing.

STOP POLLUTING! I'LL CALL CAPTAIN PLANET!

Stranger In The Church

Here's another couple of illustrations from the book. I really enjoyed drawing these.

The original story can be found here: http://themoonlitroad.com/stranger-in-the-church/

It's a zombie! Run!! The only thing that bothers me about this illustration is the man's right hand. What's it doing? Why are his fingers curled up like that? Does he have a disease? Arthritis? What's going on?!

Plat-Eye Illustration

It's been a busy weekend, and I am now officially a graduate cum laude of the Savannah College of Art and Design! It's been an amazing journey and I appreciate everyone who has gotten me this far! I'd like to upload all the work I did for "Strange Tales of the American South" before moving on to other things, so I thought I'd start with illustrations for a tale known as The Plat-Eye.

The original story can be read on Craig Dominey's website, here:
http://themoonlitroad.com/the-plat-eye/

This piece is a lot different from the stuff I normally do, as for the style and color choices. But I also got to draw a monster dog. So that was fun.

I'll be uploading more soon, so keep an eye out!

Shots from Mini-Con

Today was our Self-Publishing Mini-Convention! So I thought I'd share some pictures I took. It was a lot of fun, tons of great people and even a pirate! Arr!

Guerrilla Marketing

For our Self-Publishing project we had to come up with some Guerrilla Marketing that'd catch people's eye and let them know a little about our project. So, since the main story I was illustrating was about a dead dove, I made a dead bird and slathered him with blood! (fake, of course)

I named him Frederick.

You too can make your own dead bird! First, you'll need a ball of styrofoam, a bag of feathers, some hot glue, wire, Sculpey, and paint. First carve the styrofoam into a rough bird shape; ovalish with a small head and a sunken chest. Then painstakingly glue on the feathers (my feathers totally look fake because I didn't overlay them in the correct patterns. I was being lazy). Fashion some legs out of wire and build them up to look like real bird legs with the Sculpey, and do the same with the beak. Then paint them, add a glazed Sculpey eye, and you have your dead bird!

Promotional Poster

Welcome, all! I thought I'd go ahead and start posting images from a project I'm working on. For a few weeks I've been illustrating southern folk tales and I'll be compiling the images and stories into a book. Above is a poster I did for the project.

I'd also like to add that all credit for the stories I'm illustrating goes to http://themoonlitroad.com/. That's where I've been getting all these great stories! With each post, I'll definitely be giving them credit and letting you know who's responsible for what story. The Bleeding Heart Dove in particular was adapted from folklore by wonderful Sherry Norfolk. The story can be found here: http://themoonlitroad.com/the-bleeding-heart-dove/

I'll keep you posted!
